And Quiet Flows the Don (original title Tikhiy Don) is a Soviet 1957-1958 three-part epic drama directed by Sergei Gerasimov and based on the novel by Mikhail Sholokhov. It depict the fate of a Don Cossack family during the World War One, Russian revolution and civil war.
This movie is a second screen adaptation of Sholokhov's novel. The first one was a 1930 B&W movie; the third one was a Russian-British-Italian seven-part miniseries directed by Sergei Bondarchuk and finished by Fyodor Bondarchuk. A fourth adaptation is a mini-series directed by Sergei Ursulyak that is currently (Spring 2015) in production.
