The American Friend (original title Der amerikanische Freund) is a 1977 German/French crime drama directed by Wim Wenders and based on the novel "Ripley's Game" by Patricia Highsmith.

Another cinema adaptation of the same novel is Ripley's Game (2002) directed by Liliana Cavani.

The following weapons were used in the film The American Friend:

Pistols

Compact Beretta pistol

A compact pistol with distinctive Beretta features is used by Jonathan Zimmermann (Bruno Ganz) in the scene in Paris. It is seen only partially but its size and the shape of the business end allow to guess that it's a Beretta M1919 or Beretta 418.
