Wanted (1967)
|
Wanted (Also known as: No soy un asesino, lit: I am not a Murderer) is a 1967 Spanish-Italian Spaghetti Western film directed by Giorgio Ferroni starring Giuliano Gemma as Gaty Ryan.
With a promising future as sheriff of the town of Greenfield, Gary Ryan shows great commitment to his job, however, he is framed for a murder he did not commit in the town. After escaping from prison, Gary wants to clear his name and get revenge on the person who framed him and took his place to personally benefit.
Wanted was relatively successful at the box office and was received with positively by the general public. However, it was criticized for the excessive violence shown in the film compared to the standard of the time. The violence shown in the film is attributed to the film's assistant director, Ruggero Deodato, which came from helping in the direction of other Spaghetti Westerns like Django (1966) and Navajo Joe.
Wanted was the film that put an end to the Ferroni-Gemma duo, breaking a streak of success between the actor and the director in the genre of Spaghetti Westerns.
The following weapons were used in the film Wanted (1967):
Handguns
Colt Single Action Army
The most famous revolver of the Wild West, the Colt Single Action Army, is used by all the characters in the film, the most notable being Gary Ryan (Giuliano Gemma) and Fred Lloyd (Serge Marquand), who use it as their main sidearms. All of the Colt Single Action Armys seen in the film are not genuine, as they all have brass trigger guards and wooden grips.
Remington 1866 Derringer
During the climax of the film, Mayor Samuel Goldensberg (Daniele Vargas) turns on Fred Lloyd (Serge Marquand) and threatens him with a Remington 1866 Derringer, although he never uses it.
Rifles
Remington 1863 Zouave
When Gary Ryan (Giuliano Gemma) heads to the monastery, he is chased by a group of Mexicans who are after his bounty. One of the Mexicans pursuing him tries to kill him using a Remington 1863 Zouave. Ryan (Giuliano Gemma) briefly uses the same Remington 1863 Zouave to defend himself against the Mexicans.
Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy"
The brass-framed repeating rifle, the Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy", is the most used rifle in the film. Gary Ryan Giuliano Gemma uses a Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy" during the chase where he escapes from a group of Mexican bandits. Fred Lloyd (Serge Marquand) attempts to use one of the Winchester Model 1866s rom his home gun rack.
Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine
The Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine is the least used rifle in the film, only by the members of the Mexican gang, the most notable being the gang leader.
Others
In one of the promotional posters for the film, character with no name (probably an early iteration of the character of Gary Ryan) holds a Colt 1851 Navy.
Remington 1858 New Army
In another of the promotional posters for the film, Giuliano Gemma poses while holding two Remington 1858 New Army that he does not use at any time in the film. In the only two photos there are of the Remington 1858 New Armys, they are unloaded and without caps in the nipples.
The Remington 1858 New Armys appear to be the same ones used by Lee Van Cleef in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, as they have a fairly similar two-tone finish.
